Frequently Asked Q's

What are the benefits of sugaring?

The sugar removes hair in the natural direction of growth, during its early growth stage — eliminating breakage, unnecessary discomfort, irritation and ingrown hairs. It will not adhere to live skin cells, eliminating the chance of "lifting" off layers of healthy skin, causing hyperpigmentation, scabbing, and long term damage to your dermis. Sugaring paste is not heated to temperatures that will burn your skin. Alexandria Professional Sugar Pastes are 100% water-soluble. There is no risk of damaging or staining clothes, and — most important — your skin. Alexandria Professional Sugar Pastes are 100% hygienic. Our practitioners never re-use the sugar paste — it is always discarded after each client is treated. Bacteria do not breed in high concentrates of sugar, eliminating the possibility of cross-contamination. No need to shave between treatments or let your hair grow, grow, grow. Alexandria Professional uses skin conscious products, without urea's, parabens or Petro Ingredients! Alexandria Professional Sugar pastes are made from honey, lemon juice, and water. It's safe enough to eat!

How long does my hair have to be to get sugared?

The Alexandria Professional technique requires only 1/16" (2mm) of hair growth for treatments — eliminating the long wait between spa appointments. Two-day, previously shaven re-growth can be removed — no need to give up on a bikini line that's too short to wax!

How should I prepare for my sugaring appointment?

Facial sugaring, brows, lip, cheeks, chin: discontinue use of all Retinal, Retinoid aka Vitamin A creams and serums two weeks prior to your appointment. Retinal is a very active resurfacing ingredient that increases your skin cell metabolism which puts your skin in a constant loosening and exfoliating state. This resurfacing state can cause your live skin to be lifted off, causing hyperpigmentation. Body sugaring, legs, arms, underarms, bikini area: try to soak in an Epsom salt bath for 20-30 minutes at least once before your appointment. This should be done, preferably, the night before. If you can soak more than once, prior to your appointment, that would be great. This can be done every other night, however many times you'd like. The ratio of Epsom salt to bath water should be two cups of Epsom salt to very warm water (so you can tolerate it comfortably) up to, at least, your belly button. The Epsom salt bath breaks down the dry top microlayers of skin on the surface of your skin that adheres to your hair follicles, ultimately speeding up the sugaring process.

How should I care for my skin after my sugaring appointment?

You should continue soaking in Epsom salt baths or using salt scrub in the shower. This keeps the top layer of dead skin from forming and prevents ingrown hairs. Please note, these are very medicinal types of exfoliation. If you are someone who has always battled ingrown hair, whether you shave or wax, body sugaring will give you the least amount of ingrown hairs and, in many cases, you will see a complete decrease in ingrown hair activity. This is very specific to each individual. I continually try the latest professional skin care products that assist in tough ingrown hair problems. If you fall into this category, let me know and we will find a solution together!

How long should I wait between sugaring appointments?

Your regrowth will depend on the time of year, your genetic background, and any health issues you may be working through that affect hair growth. In general, most clients are ready for their second and third sugaring appointments 4-5 weeks after their first appointment. Once you've been sugared three times, you will start to see a decrease in your regrowth. This is because hair follicles grow in three stages and each follicle is on its own growth cycle. By sugaring appointment three, we will have, in most cases, sugared every follicle at least once.

How does microcurrent work?

Microcurrent uses safe, painless, low-level electrical impulses on strategic locations under the skin to rehabilitate, firm and tone the facial muscles on both an immediate and long-term basis. As we age, our electrical impulses can slow down causing aging and sagging facial skin. Microcurrent facial machines gently work in harmony with the natural bioelectrical currents naturally found in our bodies to help speed up the natural regenerative process resulting in firmer, healthier, more youthful looking skin. This is a technique used for both men and women that can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin.

Based on technology which has been successfully used in Chinese as well as western sports medicine, this technique utilizes microcurrent stimulation to restore healthy skin cells. This subtle electrical stimulation placed on the skin at specific points, reprograms facial muscles back to a youthful tone and resilience.
